Everyday in Charlotte 40,000 pounds of trees go to waste by being sent to a landfill or mulched. That's 9 million pounds a year in just our city alone. It is our hope to even make a fraction of a dent in that number by trying to rescue and upcycle the trees so that they don't just end up wasting away. By upcycling the trees, they can continue to bring someone joy in the form of furniture that will last for years to come!
Upcycling is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality and environmental value. We think it is extremely important to rescue these trees not only to reduce waste in landfills, but also to use these beautiful resources to their fullest potential! At Brown Dog Creative we strive to utilize the rescued urban trees to create beautiful pieces of statement furniture that truly showcases the beauty of the wood and brings a small piece of local history into your home!
As a local maker myself, I also do my best to use vendors that are also local small businesses because those are what make our beautiful city so unique. Makers spend hours upon hours perfecting their craft so that they can give their customers the best possible experience. That means anything from LONG hours, giving up weekends to sacrificing time with family and friends. When you support that maker, you are helping them make a living while allowing them to share their talent and creativity with the local community. Shopping local also boosts our local economy and makes each Charlotte neighborhood so unique.
